SOMATIC JOURNEYS
A Sacred Somatic Journey (SSJ)is a deeply profound process that transforms the way you experience your life. Somatic Journeys combine bodywork, breathwork, sound and energy to create a powerful and effective form of deep healing. This healing takes place in the physical tissues of the body alongside the energy flow inside and around the body.
Somatic Journeys can allow us to access places within that we have been separated from for a long time. More often than not, this disconnect will relate to a time when we needed to separate our physical senses as a form of protection. Because the physical body has innate memory, the parts we disconnected from can stay in this disconnect long after the events have passed. It is through this internal reconnection and reclaiming that we can step once again into our wholeness. It is through our wholeness that we can once again feel complete.
Who did I train with and learn from?
In 2023, I trained in Sacred Somatic Journeys (SSJ) with Laura Oseland, completing three separate modules over 18 months. This profound way of working has become the bedrock of my practice.
In 2024/2025, I dove deep into trauma and the body-brain response, completing CDP with some of the world’s leading experts in trauma and neuroscience: Gabor Maté’s work on compassionate inquiry and the roots of trauma, Dan Siegel’s interpersonal neurobiology, Bessel van der Kolk’s groundbreaking understanding of how trauma lives in the body, Esther Perel’s insights into relational dynamics, Janina Fisher’s approaches to structural dissociation and healing, and Tara Swart’s neuroscience of transformation. This intensive study has deepened my understanding of how our bodies hold and process experience and how healing occurs when we work with the whole system.
Currently, I’m learning from Pat Jackman who has 30 years of experience with this particular technique of body work. Her Emotional Release Technique (ERT) is profoundly informing my practice and teaching me new ways to facilitate deep release related to the inner child.
What does Somatic mean?
Somatic relates to the body as distinct from the mind. Derived from the Latin word ‘soma,’ meaning ‘the body,’ somatic practices create a sacred space where your body can tell its own story free from the mind’s interpretations or interruptions.
Your body holds its own inherent wisdom and memory. When given permission to express what it knows, a natural integration occurs that brings deep healing and release to those who experience it.
Somatic work weaves together movement, touch, and conscious connected breath. During a session, you’ll turn your attention inward, following your inner experience as you expand your awareness of what lives beneath the surface. The focus is on internal physical perception—what you feel, sense, and discover within your own landscape.
As a wise woman once said, “If you don’t go within, you go without.” Everything you need to heal already resides within you.
What form does a Somatic Journey take?
You should allow 1.5 hours for your session. This includes:
– Time for us to connect at the start of the session. You may have a clear intention that you are bringing, or simply an openness to explore your physical world.
– Table time, where you are on the table and I am working with my hands on your body. As with massage, it’s best if I can have contact directly with your skin, I cover and uncover specific areas of your body as I am working on them.
– Integration. This is still table-based, but my hands can be both on and off the body. You will be fully covered for this part. The senses often withdraw and you can journey deep into a sacred part of yourself.
How will I feel after the session?
Mostly people feel better – and what this actually means is unique to each person. I suggest that you clear your schedule as much as you can for the rest of that day so that you have space to reflect and rest. Please refrain from taking alcohol or recreational drugs 24 hours before or after a session.
How many sessions will I need?
This is something only you will know the answer to. The sessions are powerful and I suggest you take 1–2 weeks between sessions for the work to resonate to its fullest expansion. If you are dealing with some big life-changing events you may be drawn to work with me more regularly – a session every day for 3 days/once a week for 6 weeks/once a month for 6 months etc. No two session will ever be the same, even when working the same points.
Who are sessions for?
I work with people for a number of different reasons. The one common motivation I see in the people who come is that they would like more peace in their lives. Maybe some of the following situations apply to you? Stress, anxiety, depression, anger, bereavement, serious health diagnosis, recovery, PTSD, abusive past. I do not see clients who are in ‘active addiction’ but I do work with them once they are in recovery. I also work with clients who do not relate to any of the above but would like to experience life on a deeper level.
